What to expect at a meet-and-greet

What to talk about in a Zoom meet-and-greet

Ask doggy owners...

Get to know who they are as a person and as a dog owner!

  • What do you do for work? For fun?
  • How long have you lived in this neighborhood?
  • What kind of dog is it? Where did you get your dog? If rescued, do you know its backstory?
  • How long have you had your dog? Have you had a dog before this?
  • How was your dog when you first got it? How has it changed since?
  • What training, if at all, have you done with the dog?

It helps to understand what they are expecting to do and get out of Doggy Day.

  • How did you hear about Doggy Day and what made you sign up?
  • Where can I take your dog and what does your dog like to do?
  • How often can I take your dog out for a hangout? How often do you think you’ll need some help with watching your dog?
  • Share what you would like to do with the dog
  • Share why you signed up – how would you like to use Doggy Day?

Get a few of the nitty-gritty out of the way now to avoid having to coordinate later down the road!

  • What are your contact details, e.g. phone number, IG handle and email?
  • Where do you live (cross-streets okay)? Share the cross streets you live on, too!
  • Who will pick up and drop off? We recommend the owner doing this part
  • How much advance notice do you give and/or do you need?
  • Share when you are usually available and for how long
  • Discuss what items or resources you will need from the owner

The funnest part – let’s talk about the dog!

  • What is your dog like? What is its personality?
  • Is your dog good with strangers? Other dogs? Cats or small animals? Children?
  • What’s your dog like on a walk? What should I keep in mind when walking it?
  • What is your dog’s schedule for meals, walks and naps?
  • What commands does your dog know?
  • Is there anything that will trigger your dog?

Ask doggy neighbors...

Get to know who they are as a person and as your neighbor!

  • What do you do for work? For fun?
  • How long have you lived in this neighborhood?
  • Have you had a dog or taken care of a dog before? If so, what kind of dog and what was it like?
  • Do you live with anyone else or any other pets? If so, are they ok with having a dog around?
  • Does your place have outdoor space? Any areas that are off-limits to dogs?

It helps to understand what they are expecting to do and get out of Doggy Day.

  • How did you hear about Doggy Day and what made you sign up?
  • Share why you signed up – how would you like to use Doggy Day?
  • What do you expect to do with my dog? Where do you think you’d like to take it?
  • Do you foresee leaving my dog alone at your place?
  • Are you ok with picking up poop? Using treats to correct its behavior?
  • What are some things or behavior you are uncomfortable with handling?

Get a few of the nitty-gritty out of the way now to avoid having to coordinate later down the road!

  • What are your contact details, e.g. phone number, IG handle and email?
  • Where do you live (cross-streets okay)? Share the cross streets you live on, too!
  • Who will pick up and drop off? We recommend the owner doing this part
  • How much advance notice do you give and/or do you need?
  • Share when you are usually available and for how long
  • Discuss what items or resources they will need from you

Set your boundaries so others can respect it.

  • What are some triggers that they should avoid? What should you do at that point?
  • What is your vet information and the emergency contact?
  • What is the contingency plan if the dog runs off? Gets sick? Eats something they shouldn’t?
  • Does the dog have any medical conditions they should beware of?
  • Demonstrate the commands your dog knows
  • What are some things or places your dog enjoys?
  • How should they introduce other dogs to your dog, if at all allowed?
